SECI signs MoU with CPWD for Development of Solar Rooftop Projects

Start Date:- 01-13-15 End Date:- 02-14-15

In a major initiative to optimally utilise Solar energy for the benefit of people, Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 6th January, 2015.

The MoU was signed by Shri B. B. Bhatia (Director General, CPWD) and Dr. Ashvini Kumar (MD, SECI) in the presence of H’ble Minister of Urban Development Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, H’ble Minister of Power and NRE Shri Piyush Goyal, H’ble Minister of State for Urban Development Shri Babul Supriyo, Secretary (UD) Shri Shankar Aggarwal and other senior officials.

Through this MoU, Rooftop Solar PV projects are proposed to be installed on the buildings/offices of CPWD as part of their renewable energy strategies. SECI would be the implementing agency for such projects.

The project developers would be selected by SECI through a competitive bidding process and power sale would be to CPWD on the basis of discovered price.

This development is in line with the Government of India’s programme for encouraging the installation of rooftop solar projects through subsidy enablers.

In addition to being environment-friendly, these projects would help cut down on electricity bills well as promote efficient energy utilisation.
