SECI and EESL sign MoU for promotion of solar based Energy Efficiency Projects

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 30th September, 2013 in continuation to their efforts towards achieving the objectives under the National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC). The MoU seeks to forge collaboration and cooperation in implementation of solar energy and energy efficiency projects.

The MoU was signed by Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (PS), SECI & Shri Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL, in the presence of Shri Tarun Kapoor, MD, SECI.

Through this MoU, the companies shall explore the opportunities to team up with each order to undertake emerging business activities in solar energy and advancing and implementing energy efficiency measures in India. SECI and EESL intend to support each other in their respective endeavours for gainful utilization of solar resource and optimizing energy usage.  

About the company:

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is a Joint Venture Company of four Central Public Sector Undertakings of Ministry of Power, Government of India - NTPC Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation. It was formed to lead the market development and implementation functions of the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE) which seeks to unlock the energy efficiency market of Rs. 74,000 crores. EESL obtained its Certificate of Incorporation on 10th December 2009 and obtained its certificate for Commencement of Business on 11th February 2010.       

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) was set up on 20th September, 2011, as a not-for-profit company under Section-25 of the Companies Act 1956 as an implementation and facilitation institution dedicated to Solar Energy sector. SECI is established under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. Mandate of SECI allows wide ranging activities to be undertaken with an overall view to facilitate implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission and achieving the targets set therein.

Presently, SECI is engaged in wide-ranging activities for the development and deployment in the area of solar energy, such as, 750 MW of Phase-II grid-connected solar power projects, pilot scheme on grid-connected solar roof-tops in the country, pilot CSP projects, besides solar parks, mini/micro-grids etc.
