Start Date:- 08-08-13 End Date:- 08-30-13

Issues of power shortages in India are making most of the commercial and office establishments to opt for diesel generator backup, which is neither cost effective nor environment friendly. Solar Energy Corporation of India, in its effort to promote & implement solar energy as a green & economic alternative to the conventional source of energy, organized the 4th workshop on grid connected Rooftop Solar PV Plant at Bengaluru (Bangalore) on 31st July, 2013 subsequent to similar workshops held at Chennai, Hyderabad & Chandigarh. The workshop was presided over by Shri Tarun Kapoor, IAS (Joint Secretory, MNRE). The list of speakers included Dr. Ashvini Kumar (Director-Solar, SECI), Shri M B Dyaberi, IAS (MD, KREDL), Mr. Timon Herzog (Expert, GIZ), and Prof. Dr. Roland Schindler, (Executive Director, Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems). Representatives from the successful bidders of Grid connected Rooftop PV tender recently awarded by SECI also presented their views regarding the potential of Rooftop based PV systems in Bengaluru (as Bengaluru is one of the cities selected for implementation of Rooftop PV Projects, Phase-I).

The workshop was aimed to create general awareness about Grid Connected Rooftop based PV Power Plants and promote MNRE’s pilot scheme on the same, amongst entrepreneurs, institutions and the citizens of Bengaluru. The event was attended by around 100 participants from various backgrounds.

This was quite an interactive session and a mixed bag of queries, comments & suggestions were put forward by the participants, which were appropriately answered & acknowledged by the chairing dignitaries. Overall views of the speakers and responses of participants were quite positive in this regard and the workshop concluded on an optimistic note.
